Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Planners parties.
